Grambling State Ridiculousness & the Role of the College Media Adviser

Welcome to the latest installment of the College Media Podcast. The CMP is a collaborative venture with Bryan Murley from the Center for Innovation in College Media.

The podcast’s aim: spotlighting big college media news, standout student press work and an array of helpful and innovative tips, sites, programs and tech tools.

In our current episode, recorded during the ACP/CMA National College Media Convention in New Orleans, we provide updates on what Grambling State student editors shared during a convention session about the roadblocks and censorship they regularly face from one of their advisers.

The staffers’ confessions and concerns raised an array of larger questions for Bryan and I, triggering a quick back-and-forth on how student press advisers should do their jobs — especially when it comes to issues like content editing and prior review, staff selection and punishment and maintaining the right level of STUDENT control.
