12 Must-Buy Books for Your Student Press Newsroom Collection

Welcome to the latest installment of the College Media Podcast. The CMP is a collaborative venture with Bryan Murley from the Center for Innovation in College Media.

The podcast’s aim: spotlighting big college media news, standout student press work and an array of helpful and innovative advice, sites, programs and tech tools.

In our current episode, we run through a list of books we consider essential for any student press newsroom collection. They are a mix of educational and inspirational, old school and digitally focused. There are textbooks, resource guides, an autobiography, a reportorial classic and a few influential craft-culture commentaries.

A humble hype for my own book, Journalism of Ideas: Brainstorming, Developing, and Selling Stories in the Digital Age. College Media Association president David Swartzlander calls it “the next new mandatory text for college journalists” and “an instant classic.”
