Psst, JuicyCampus is Dead, Pass It On…

The news business is imploding, and so is the gossip trade!  JuicyCampus, the equally loathed-and-loved “virtual campus grapevine” that for more than a year provided a forum for collegians to anonymously spread the word about anyone and anything, truth be damned, has shuttered its site, according to The Chronicle at Duke University.

Its founder/gossipmonger says the economy is to blame:

Even with great traffic and strong user loyalty, a business can’t survive and grow without a steady stream of revenue to support it. In these historically difficult economic times, online ad revenue has plummeted and venture capital funding has dissolved. JuicyCampus’ exponential growth outpaced our ability to muster the resources needed to survive this economic downturn.

That statement, in gossip terms: Mr. Businessman never figured out how to turn a rumor mill into a moneymaker.  Pass it on.

But fear not, for those who bathe in idol talk and possibly bear false witness,  a new online promoter of hearsay and innuendo has risen from Juicy’s ashes: CollegeACB (Anonymous Confessions Board).  An opening statement from its purveyor claims the site encourages “actual discussion” over “salacious posts.”  Hmmmm…
